LEAPING INTO SPRING

 After a much needed break from cyberspace, I've reemerged feeling focused and rejuvenated (spring cleaning is some powerful stuff). The warmer season has brought its typical climate changes and a few personal ones for me; the most notable being an exciting new editorial position which I'll share next week. Style wise, I'm mixing shorter hemlines with my favorite 'in-between season' pieces like this leather jacket.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK PART 4: ELEGANT EMBELLISHMENT

Three very different designers gave me a lesson in embellishment in part 4 of my Fashion Week diary. Despite their differences, a common theme remains. A simple ensemble with a pop of glamour is always a success.

Shows:
ALEJANDRO INGELMO: The Cuban designer uses his rich heritage to bring a sexy, colorful nature to his sophisticated shoes. His presentation, held in the modern Robert Miller Gallery, blended in with the surrounding intricate, contemporary sculptures.

 

CZAR BY CESAR GALINDO: Being backstage at Cesar Galindo's presentation was a thrilling learning experience. In the makeup room, I learned how to contour a nose (swipe concealer two shades lighter down the middle and rub bronzer along the sides) and that Indian Holi powder is often used to temporarily color models' hair. In regards to the clothes, Galindo only used intense colors and fabrics on classic silhouettes; thus making them wearable.

  
 
 
 
 

TRACY REESE: Glitter, sequins, and voluminous hair were all in attendance at Reese's shoppable fall/winter show. Her message? Winter should be anything but dull and dreary.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK PART 3: MILK MADE

 In the art, music, and fashion world, Milk Studios is known as the best space for photoshoots and videography. Milk Made serves as an online platform to showcase the products of Milk's creative community. During fashion week, I attended their presentation which featured a series of talented designers; many of whom were new to me.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK PART 2: A NEW TAKE ON TEXTURE

Luckily, my entire second day of shows was spent inside Lincoln Center where I was shielded from the chill. In between shows, I relaxed in E!'s lounge and prepared for my graduate school interviews.

The three shows I attended each tackled a similar trend: texture. 

Shows:

MONIQUE LHUILLIER stuck to a monochromatic palette and used bold fabrics to create shape and glamour. 

    
  

SON JUNG WAN infused unexpected textures like fur, metallic panels, and gold lips together to create a futuristic look.

  

MARA HOFFMAN stuck to her signature tribal patterns to create the illusion of texture and leave the audience longing for a vacation.
